การใช้ “that” เป็น Relative Pronoun เป็นเรื่องที่น่าสนใจนะ เพราะว่า that เป็นคำที่ค่อนข้างจะ
ใช้ได้เยอะ (ใจกว้างไง) และจะละได้หาก that ทำหน้าที่เป็นกรรม คือ ใส่ก็ได้ ไม่ใส่ก็ได้ (ถ้า that เป็น
ประธานจะละไม่ได้เด็ดขาดเลยนะ)
>> I have no money (that) I can lend you.
>> The car (that) you’re talking about has been sold.
>> Do you have a book that is about Thai royal family ?
>> An animal that stung you is only a bee.
นอกจากนี้ยังมีทิปเล็ก ๆ ที่น่าสนใจเกี่ยวกับการใช้ that อีก ดูจ๊ะ
1) ใช้ that เสมอกับ Adj. ขั้นสูงสุด Superlative Degree (บทที่ 15)
>> He is the most patient man that I have ever known.
>> She is the best student that I have every seen.
2) ใช้ that เสมอหากมีเลขนับลำดับที่ประกอบอยู่ข้างหน้า
>> She is the third wife that he married to.
>> France is the first country that I’m going to visit.
3) ใช้ that คู่กับคำ Adj. บอกปริมาณ เหล่านี้ด้วยเช่น only, many, few, all
>> “Money” is only thing that she needs most
>> He has so many plans that he offers to us.
>> A few people that waited began to buy the tickets.
>> They are all products that we sale.
4) ใช้ that เป็น Relative Pronoun แล้วห้ามมี comma ขั้นหน้า that
>> The newspaper that he read makes him sad.
>> She is the next person that you should meet.
5) ใช้กับ that กับ which สลับกันได้เสมอ ยกเว้น คน ห้ามใช้ which และหากคนนั้น
มี Adj. ขั้นสูงสุด มาขยายห้ามใช้ which (ดูหลักข้อข้างบนสิ)
>> I have lost the earrings that (which) you lent me.
>> He is the best guy that I’ve ever known.
